Strong marks matter, and they will help you get into a course. But when you apply for a bursary or a job, many applicants have strong marks. What sets people apart is what else they have done.
What stands out
- Leading or organising something, even a small club or a school event.
- Work experience, including part-time jobs and vacation work.
- A project you started yourself, such as a small business or a community drive.
- Consistent volunteering for a cause you care about.
Start small
You do not need to do everything. Pick one or two things, stay with them and do them well. Keep a list of what you achieved, with numbers, so it is ready when you write your CV. Read more on our University Students page.
