Modi-Edu is a web-based non-profit helping South African high school and university students find their path through career guidance, academic support, financial literacy and entrepreneurship.
Why “Modi”?
Modi is the first name of our founder. The name comes from the Sepedi word modu, which means root.
Take care of the roots and the tree will bloom and be anchored, in and out of season. Your life starts now, so carve a path to ensure a bright future.
Know the kind of tree you are. Some trees thrive in dry ground, while others thrive in wetlands. Discover who you are, and work on that. Our logo shows exactly this: a mind in bloom, held up by deep roots.
The problem we are working on
South Africa has high youth unemployment and a skills gap, and many learners, especially those far from big cities, have little access to career guidance. They often learn about bursaries, subject requirements and application deadlines too late.
Our vision
To be South Africa’s leading digital platform for student career guidance and entrepreneurship education.
Our mission
To provide accessible, engaging and practical career and financial resources that help students make informed decisions about their futures.
What we do
- Career guidance: free quizzes, mentorship and a directory of universities, TVET colleges and international options, whether online, in person or hybrid.
- Academic support: help with applications, bursaries and scholarships.
- Job shadowing and internships: placements with partner companies, and “A Day in the Life” videos for learners who cannot visit a workplace.
- Financial literacy: blogs, webinars and an upcoming eBook on budgeting, saving and investing.
- Entrepreneurship: encouraging students to start small, form partnerships and learn from failing early.
Our values
Empowerment. Knowledge. Growth. Accessibility.
