School looks very different around the world. Here are a few things that might surprise you.
- Japan: in many schools, students help clean the classrooms and corridors themselves, as part of learning about responsibility and respect.
- Finland: children start formal school later than in many countries, and the country is known for short school days and little homework in the early years.
- Germany: many young people follow a “dual” path, learning a trade in a company while attending vocational school, and this is a respected route to a career.
- South Korea: the national university entrance exam is such a big event that the country goes quiet, with some flights and work schedules adjusted for exam day.
