How to apply for a bursary: a checklist

October 20, 2026

Bursaries can make the difference between studying and not studying. Use this checklist to give your applications the best chance.

  1. Start early. Many close months before final results are out.
  2. Read the requirements. Check marks, field of study, citizenship and income conditions before you spend time on the form.
  3. Gather documents. Certified ID copies, school reports, proof of household income, and a motivation letter if requested.
  4. Write a real motivation. Explain who you are, what you want to study and why, and what you will do with the opportunity.
  5. Apply to several. Do not rely on a single bursary.
  6. Keep copies and track deadlines.
  7. Never pay. A genuine bursary application is free.
